Pritchard Design Group specializes in designing and custom building Retrofit Vehicle Desks.
The founder is Troy Pritchard, an innovative entrepreneur and Property Claims Adjuster. Troy came up with his vehicle desk concept in 2008 when he flew a friend to a storm site to help him with work.
Being the efficient business professional he is, Troy was determined to make the best use of his time during the three hour drive back to the deployment site.
He installed a power inverter in his SUV and set up a 2' x 4' folding table in the back to work on files. Although he was able to get a considerable amount of work done during his three hour trip, the makeshift office table was shifting around when traveling. It was then that he envisioned a retrofit vehicle desk which would follow the contour of the vehicle. Soon thereafter he created his first retrofit vehicle desk and has provided his product to several business professionals.
Time is Money. Are you a business professional who has found yourself on more than one occasion being stood up on an appointment? Your office is over an hour away and your next appointment is only 10 minutes away. What do you do? You likely check emails on your phone, return phone calls.. or perhaps you haul your laptop into a nearby coffee shop and work on files in a crowded and often times noisy atmosphere.
Imagine having an office with you at all times; an office in your car. When you get that call at 11 AM that your 12 PM appointment canceled, what do you do for 3 hours until your 2 PM appointment? I can tell you from personal experience, that your attitude towards cancellations is completely different knowing you have a nice, comfortable office in your own vehicle, where you can work on files until your next appointment.
The 2-piece large desk consists of a large section and a smaller adjustable section. It is designed for one person to sit behind the adjustable section. The large section provides ample room for a printer and laptop for those who wish to work with a headrest mounted monitor and wireless keyboard. Each section is made of lightweight polystyrene rigid foam that is easy to install. The smaller section utilizes ball bearing drawer guides for smooth operation. The small section is adjoined to the large section using two powerful neodymium magnets. The drawer guide, (which is mounted to the small section) has two holes which fit around round head socket cap bolts. The socket cap bolts hold the magnets into the large section. This keeps the smaller section in place. Both sections are covered in marine grade vinyl material. The bottoms of the sections are covered with 1/8" thick polyethylene with a textured finish. The large section has a cup holder and a tray organizer built into the desk.

The 3-piece desk system is designed so two people can work in the back at the same time. It is particularly useful when showing a client a short presentation, photos, documents, etc. The three piece desk consists of a center console and two adjustable sections. The adjustable sections are made of lightweight polystyrene rigid foam which installs easily into the vehicle. The adjustable sections utilize ball bearing drawer guides for smooth operation. They are adjoined to the center console using two powerful neodymium magnets. In most cases you will not need more than a 400 watt inverter. You may not need to install an inverter if your vehicle is equipped with one. If your vehicle comes with a 110v plug in, it is likely powered by a 150 watt inverter. Based on my experience the following breaks down the power consumption per item.
- Laptop 90 watts
- Inkjet Printer 25 watts
- Monitor 20 watts
For more info on power consumption visit https://www.donrowe.com/usage-chart-a/259.htm
If you wish to set your laptop off to the side and use a monitor and wireless keyboard the following is a link for a headrest monitor mount. If you are mounting a monitor over 23" you will likely need purchase offset extensions.

- Wireless keyboard
- Power Strip
- USB hub (Fasten to bottom of large desk or center console)
- 6' USB cable (Runs from laptop to USB hub)
- SD card reader (When using a wireless keyboard and laptop is not in reaching distance)
- Non-slip shelf and drawer liner (To keep printer in place)
- 4 gauge wiring from the battery to inverter. A welders supply shop is a good place to get 4 gauge wire.
